Cameras will be installed in two key national highways, No. 5 and No. 70, in order to make traffic control more efficient.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai gave approval, in principal, to a project to enforce traffic safety laws on these motor systems.

The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Security would be assigned to carry out the project, under a BOT system.

National Highway No. 5 is a key route linking Haiphong Port and Hanoi. This is part of the Asia-transitional route AH14. National Highway 70 links Phu Tho to Yen Bai and Lao Cai, in the north-west.

According to the Road Traffic Police, between June 2008 and November 2011, the camera system has assisted in detecting close to 24,000  violations on Phap Van-Ninh Binh section of National Highway 1A.
