The Ministry of Transport will kick off the construction of the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen overpass in the northern port city of Haiphong on February 15.

The 15-kilometre bridge will span across a section of sea with 5.44 kilometres long.

When it is completed in 2017, the bridge will be the longest sea overpass in Vietnam and be one of the largest of its kind the Southeast Asia.

The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen Bridge will be constructed under a road project, and will serve as an important part of the infrastructure for Lach Huyen Port.

The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen road project is funded by Japanese ODA along and reciprocal funds from the Vietnamese government and will cost a total of VND11.8 trillion (USD558.31 million).

The road will run through Hai An and Cat Hai Districts of Haiphong City. It will start in Tan Vu and end at the gate of Lach Huyen Port.

The overpass is to have four traffic lanes and is designed for vehicle speeds of 80 kilometres per hour.

The project will help link Haiphong’s international gate in Tan Vu – Lach Huyen to major areas in the northeastern economic corridor as well as mitigate traffic congestion in and around Dinh Vu and Cai Hai industrial parks in Haiphong City.
