Prime Minister receives Former British PM Tony Blair

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on July 23 held a reception for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, during which he said Vietnam wanted to deepen its strategic partnership with the UK.

Prime Minister Dung said Vietnam wanted to foster bilateral relations in politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, education, training and people-to people exchanges. He called for the UK ’s continued support for Vietnam in poverty reduction, infrastructure development and climate change response.

For his part, Tony Blair expressed deep impression on Vietnam ’s achievements in socio-economic development, poverty reduction and the implementation of Milleniums Development Goals.

He expressed his belief in Vietnam ’s long term development and praised Vietnam ’s international integration policy, economic reform and its efforts to improve business environment for investors. He also said he was willing to share his experience with Vietnam in attracting foreign investment, responding to climate change, and developing Public-Private Partnerships, education and human resource.

Within the framework of his visit, Blair will work with Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh and attend a discussion in Hanoi on global investment trends and recommendations for Vietnam.
