One of the testing centres is at the Ministry of Public Security with a total investment of VND285 billion (US$13.4 million) and the other at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) with an investment of VND229 billion (US$10.8 million).

The PM also ordered the Minister of Public Security and Chairman of the VAST to hasten the project on upgrading DNA identification systems of remains, of soldiers that are not sufficiently documented, in 2014 and 2015.

Under the project, which was approved in early 2013, three DNA testing facilities under the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Public Security and the VAST will be upgraded and each is expected to undertake genetic testing of 4,000 remains of soldiers each year to meet the targets of identification of 80,000 remains of soldiers by 2020.

The country has about 1.2 million martyrs, of which more than 300,000 tombs of soldiers lack information and about 200,000 remains of soldiers have not been located.
