This year's event, themed ‘Take actions for a garbage-free environment’, aims to improve public awareness of the issue’s importance and encourage people to discharge garbage at designated places and keep environment clean, while also mobilising the business community to join the campaign to make the world cleaner.

Partners participating in the campaign signed commitments to replicate the model of garbage-free residential areas, where they agreed to not discharging waste into streets, canals and public places; sorting waste and disposing garbage at designated places; increasing the use of environmentally friendly bags instead of plastic ones; and positively cleaning up houses and public places.

After the launch ceremony, participants took part in activities to clean up the environment, including clearing Sau Suu canal, cleaning the environment around An Phu Dong ward, and promoting environmental protection information to locals and traders at Vuon Lai market.

A wide range of activities has been held in other localities across the nation during September in response to the campaign.

The community-based environmental campaign runs every September and was adapted globally by the United Nations Environmental Programme after its founding in Australia in 1993.

It has become an important annual international environmental event, attracting the participation of hundreds of millions of people from more than 130 countries around the globe in activities to improve local environments.

First launched in Vietnam in 1994, Clean Up the World has received a warm response from relevant ministries, agencies and localities, resulting in positive outcomes.
