The Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health and the Nghe An provincial People’s Committee held a ceremony on October 9 to launch the ‘Milk for Schools’ programme.

The event was attended by Politburo member and National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.

The school milk programme, sponsored by dairy company TH Milk, is intended to help improve the nutrition of underprivileged children who cannot afford nutritious food.

It also aims to contribute to fulfilling national targets of reducing the rate of malnutrition among children and promote their physical growth.

According to UNICEF, a large number of Vietnamese children under the age of five are stunted as a result of malnutrition. But Vietnam is making progress, currently leading the way in lowering rates of malnutrition.

Over the last two years, the company has donated nearly 18 million boxes of milk to schoolchildren in 49 provinces and cities throughout Vietnam.

On this occasion, TH Milk also presented one million boxes of milk to children of workers and students in Ly Son island district in the central province of Quang Ngai, and Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands district of Khanh Hoa province.
