The Architect Association in Khanh Hoa Province has protested against a tourism wharf project near the Cham towers of Thap Ba Ponagar.

The project which received the provincial people's committee's approval will be built by Viet An Investment and Development Ltd. Co.

The USD85,714 5,700 square-metre project will include support facilities such as parking, management offices and ticket offices.

According to Khanh Hoa Province's Architect Association, the project should be re-considered due to its impact on the highly valuable Thap Ba Ponagar Cham heritage site.

Architect Nguyen Van Loc, Former Director of Khanh Hoa Province's Construction Department, said that it is necessary to build a wharf for tourism development on the Cai River. However, Thap Ba Ponagar is located near Xom Bong Bridge, so the construction of a tourism wharf could create more traffic in the area.
