The body of the co-pilot of the Su-30MK2 fighter jet that went missing on Tuesday has been taken to shore on June 18.

According to the National Committee for Search and Rescue, the body of pilot Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Khai was found floating with a parachute by a fisherman at 6p.m on June 17 about 20 nautical miles North-East from the site where the military fighter jet is believed to have crashed.

Khai’s body was taken to shore by a Coast Guard vessel at 4.30 am on Saturday.

The Vietnamese Air Force fighter jet went off radar during a training session near Hon Mat Island in the central province of Nghe An on June 14 carrying two on board. Pilot, Major Nguyen Huu Cuong, 39, had been rescued by a fishing boat the following day.

After being rescued, Cuong said that he and Khai had successfully ejected after they heard an explosion in the cockpit, and as he was falling down, he could see Khai's parachute some seven kilometres from his place.

The search for Khai became deadly yesterday when the Coast Guard's Casa 212 plane carrying nine people crashed near Bach Long Vi Island in the northern city of Hai Phong. While many parts of the plane and personal items have been retrieved, the plight of the crew members onboard is still unknown.

The search for the Casa 212 plane and the crew is still going on.
