Vietnam-US music festival returns to Vietnam

The 2016 Vietnam-US music festival will be held in Vietnam for the second time, with world famous pieces to be performed at numerous concerts from August 7-14.

With the new name ‘Vietnam Connection’, the festival is a meeting place for classical music lovers in Vietnam, and connects Vietnamese music with international music.

The event will feature the participation of nearly 30 talented classical musicians from Vietnam and the US, such as pianists Nguyen Huy Phuong, Dao Trong Tuyen, Nguyen Trinh Huong, Tran Thai Linh; violinists Chuong Vu, Bui Cang Duy, Ngo Hoang Linh, Pham Truong Son, Le Hoang Lan, Dao Mai Anh, Zhan Shu; viola artists Tran Thi Ngoc Thuy, Bui Anh Son, Yi-Wen Chao; cellistTran Thi Mo, Bronwyn Banerdt, Lan Jiang; double bassists John Moore; flutist Le Thu Huong; clarinetist Tran Khanh Quang and harpist Elliot Figg.

Audiences will have an opportunity to enjoy world famous pieces, including the Brandenburg Concerto No 3 in G Major, BWV 1048; the Concerto for 2 violins in D Major, BWV 1043; and the Brandenburg Concerto No 4 in G Major, BWV 1049, the Concerto for 2 pianos in C Major, BWV 1060; and the Concerto for 2 violins in C Major, and BWV 1061.

The musicians will also present the beauty of Baroque music, a style of European classical music from the years 1600 to 1750, during the Vietnam Connection Music Festival.

The music festival will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 7 and 9, at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and Ho Chi Minh City Opera House, respectively.

The third concert of the festival will be held in Hanoi at the Goethe Institute on August 11. Entitled The Four Seasons in Brandenburg, the concert will charm audiences with the sweet melodies of pieces by Vivaldi and Bach.

Audiences in Hanoi will also have the chance to enjoy the Vietnam Virtuosi and Special Guests with a concert scheduled at the Vietnam National Academy of Music on August 13.

The festival will wrap up with a gala on August 14 at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Tickets prices are VND550,000 ($24.7), VND400,000 ($18), VND350,000 ($15.7), VND200,000 ($9) and VND80,000 ($3.6) for students.
