A collision between a Vietnamese and a Micronesian vessel on August 8 has left two Vietnamese crew members missing.

The accident happened at around 11 pm on August 8 when Vietnam's Thanh Dat 01 vessel and Micronesia's Guo Shun 21 collided with each other at the area which is some 118 nautical miles from the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The Vietnam Maritime search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre has sent vessels to help with the search.

At that time, the Thanh Dat 01 were transporting 11 people and nearly 5,000 tonnes of corrugated iron sheet from Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province to the northern central province of Thanh Hoa.

The collision caused 11 people on the Vietnamese ship to fall into the sea; nine were saved by the Guo Shun 21, while the two men, one from Hai Duong Province and the other from Nam Dinh Province, remain missing.
