Hanoi People's Committee has agreed in principle to a local advertising company’s project to build 1,000 new public toilets.

The capital currently faces a serious shortage of public toilets.

Vinasing Trading and Communication Joint Stock Company will also provide Hanoi with 50 water machines, 50 tanker trucks and 200 benches for public places in the city.

In exchange, the company will be permitted to put up their advertising billboards on footbridges and overpasses across the city.

Vinasing will have 10 years to recoup their investment and during this time, it must be responsible for carrying out maintenance and repair work on the toilets.

The toilets must use environmentally-friendly and use high-quality materials and ensure suitable design for the city's scenery.

The Hanoi Department of Construction will conduct a survey to select specific places for the toilet construction.

The capital currently faces a serious shortage of public toilets. It has some 350 public toilets with many of them being downgraded and failing to meet the hygienic requirements.
