A young ethnic minority woman in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh needs two urgent heart operations; however, her family is so poor to cover to operation costs and hospital fees, leaving her condition to be more critical.

Huong and his farther

Bui Thi Thu Huong, 24, in Kim Boi District has been suffering from heart diseases for many years, but due to financial difficulties, her parents can't take her to the hospital for treatment. Until two weeks ago when she was extremely tired with breathing difficulties, her farther took her to Hanoi Heart Hospital.

Her farther Bui Van Tam said that he had only VND1.7 million (USD80.80) to take her daughter to the hospital as his relatives and neighbours are all poor, so, he does not know where to borrow money. Having spent VND200,000 on transport, he had a mere VND1.5 million to pay the medical check-up fees.

Huong now weighs only 30 kilos

Doctors said that Huong's condition has worsened, so she needs urgent surgery and after that she will have to take another operation. The total cost for the two will be VND60 million (USD2,850).

According to Doctor Nguyen Gia Phong who treats Huong, the timetable for Huong's surgery has been fixed, however as her family are struggling to pay the fees, the doctors have had to delay treatment.

Despite being 24 years old, Huong weighs just 30 kilogrammes and is very small, but operations could still save the young woman.
