The horrific moment when 14 houses slid into the river in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang was recorded in a video clip by a local official.

Thanh, who works for the local water drainage department told Dantri/DTiNews on Monday that he recorded the video when coming to check and supervise the issue.

"The slide occurred very fast and houses collapsed and fell into the river in just a couple of minutes," he said.

According to an official at the Cho Moi District People's Committee, the big villa in the video was built only two years ago by a local man named Tran Van Bi. Although local authorities had not given him a construction permit due to the threat of erosion, he ignored their advice.

Bi together with 13 other neighbours had been informed about the threat and evacuated two days before the incident which occurred on April 22.

Vice chairman of the provincial people's committee, Lam Quang Thi, said that as the people have successfully moved out all their furniture and belongings before the incident, the losses were limited to about VND8.8 billion (USD395,012).

14 houses fell into the river in An Giang Province on April 22.

"We've evacuated over 100 more households, a school and a factory which are under threat of the erosion spreading," Thi said. "40 other houses also lie in dangerous area which need special supervision."
