 >>  Vietnam is at risk from WannaCry cyber attack
HCM City Department of Information and Communication has reported that computers at some agencies are still infected with WannaCry ransomware.

The information was announced on May 22 during a meeting about information security with HCM City People's Committee. On May 12, right after it was warned that Vietnam was at risk of WannaCry, 74 agencies quickly updated their security. However, some officials didn't install the update or uninstalled it.

From May 12 to 16, WannaCry was blocked at five agencies including the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Binh Chanh District People's Committee, District 9 People's Committee and the city fire department.

They also dealt with two cases of other malware from May 15 to 18 on the computers of the city inspectorate and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Vietnam still has over 1,500 computers using Windows XP because of a lack of funds. Most of these computers have installed patches and updates against WannaCry.

WannaCry ransomware hasn't caused any serious damage to systems. However, the Department of Information and Communication warned that many agencies have a lax attitude about internet security.

The HCM City People's Committee asked the department to quickly set up a plan to develop an information safety centre for better security and to react quickly to emergency.
