Poor wife seeks to save disabled husband
A poor woman in the central province of Ha Tinh now wishes to have VND45 million (USD2,000) to pay for an operation for her husband who has suffered from serious injuries.
Le Thi Duyen, 28, in Huong Khe District's Phu Gia Commune said that in May 2016, her husband Phan Viet Hieu had a labour accident which caused multiple traumas, including broken spine, when she was pregnant. Since then, he was left paralysed and bed-ridden.
Duyen tried to borrow money from different sources to take her husband to Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi which is some 400 kilometres from their home for the treatment. During the two-month treatment including an operation, Hieu’s condition did not improve.
Doctors said that Hieu needs another operation to transplant stem cells as soon as possible to prevent the possibility of cerebral atrophy.
“Our debt has risen to VND250 million (USD11,363) and now I don’t know how can I borrow an additional VND45 million for the next operation,” Duyen said.
So she brought her husband home to their dilapidated house to await death.
When her son was nearly a month old, she had to leave him at home to go to work. Sometimes, neighbours gave the couple some food and milk to feed the baby. The little son faces the malnutrition, and he is very small and often sick.
