The Ministry of Defence has ordered to halt all activities in the golf course by Tan Son Nhat Airport for the inspection. The ministry will have a meeting before reporting the results to the prime minister.

According to Chiem, the golf course project was constructed since 2007 and was approved by eight ministries and the prime minister. "Now we have to find a solution to deal with it. Our view is to prioritise civil aviation," he said.

He went on to say that there was a lot of military-owned land in HCM City and many problems created by decisions in the past. The ministry will inspect all the lands and keep those that are necessary for national defence, the others will be transferred to the people's committee to develop the city.

Chiem said the military wouldn't do business and would have their companies equitised.

He asked the local authorities to strictly follow Resolution 28 about developing economy and defence as HCM City is an important political and commercial centre.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Long Thanh Airport wouldn't be completed by 2025 or 2027 so it was important to expand Tan Son Nhat Airport to ease overload. The authorities should hire foreign consultants to find the most suitable solution.
