An investigation will be conducted into people who invented a rumour about an air crash at Noi Bai International Airport.

According to Nguyen Huy Duong, deputy director of Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, the information about an aeroplane falling into the airport due to the heavy rain and strong wind originated on the internet.

Duong denied the rumour, saying that it was totally wrong. He said that all flights at the airport were operated normally.

The made-up information has worried the public and affected the prestige of the Vietnamese aviation sector, Duong added.

He noted that the airport authorities will join hands with the police to investigate the case to strictly punish the rumour-mongers.

Under the government’s regulation, the fine for people who provide false information or slander information on the internet which can affect the prestige of individuals or organisations is between VND20 million (USD900) and VND30 million (USD1,360).

In case of more serious consequences, the violations can face criminal prosecution.
