Quang Binh seeks government help after Storm Doksuri

Authorities of the central province of Quang Binh have proposed to the government to extend debts and reduce or exempt interest on loans for local households and businesses affected by the recent Storm Doksuri.

The recent storm left two people dead and 180 injured in the locality. 243 houses were destroyed, 95,433 were seriously damaged, 5,909 flooded. As many as 527 schools have also been affected.

The typhoon damaged 60 medical stations and 6,610 hectares of rubber trees.

To date, many areas in the province have not yet had electricity restored after the storm.

The local Steering Committee on Natural Disasters Prevention and Search and Rescue reported a total losses of VND7.8 trillion (USD352.42 million).

Chairman of the provincial people’s committee Nguyen Huu Hoai said that efforts will be continued to deal with the consequences of the storm.

He also instructed localities to check households which faced the great loss to offer assistance.

The committee has proposed that the government consider providing around 5,000 tonnes of rice and VND780 billion (USD35.4 million) in aid for the province.
