Nong Thi Hao from Ha Nam Province can’t treat her leukaemia as she needs to buy milk for their son.
After her story was published, readers have donated over VND141m (USD 6,200) and helped treat Hao's son and prolonged her life. However, because of the costly treatment, the family quickly ran out of money.
She said, "Over the year I've been sick, my husband can't go to work because he has to take care of me. We can only borrow a few hundreds of thousands of VND to buy milk for our children, we can't pay for chemotherapy sessions. I only wish for my children to have full meals and clothes to wear right now. Then I can die. It's hurt.
About a week ago, Hao's gums started bleeding a lot but the family has no money to go to the hospital.
"Most patients staying in the same ward with me at the National Institute of Haematology & Blood Transfusion have died. Only I and another patient are still being treated," she said.
