Drivers use small change to protest over tollgate

Several drivers on December 11 used small change when paying toll fees at a build, operate and transfer (BOT) toll booth on National Highway 5.
The move followed drivers who travelled through Cai Lay BOT toll station in the southern province of Tien Giang recently.
The toll station is now located in Hung Yen Province.
The use of small changes took more time for the toll station to prepare the returned money, leading to traffic congestion from Hanoi to Hung Yen Province.
Earlier, in September this year, some drivers also used small change for paying BOT toll fees at the highway.
Hung Yen Province has proposed to the Ministry of Transport exempt the toll fees for drivers who live around 5 kilometres far from the toll booth.
