Vietnam is seeing an increase in bookings in the cities of Hanoi (212 per cent year-on-year) and Da Nang (255 per cent), Airbnb reports, “which blend gleaming waterfronts and centuries-old architecture with cosmopolitan amenities.”

Hanoi, with its interesting combination between the old and the new, also ranked 52nd among the world’s 100 leading cities in terms of international tourist arrivals in the annual Top City Destinations Ranking report released at the World Travel Market in London, as it welcomed 4.3 million foreign travelers in 2017, up 7.5 per cent against 2016.

Meanwhile, the central city of Da Nang, with beautiful beaches and famous world heritage sites nearby and which hosted the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November and the annual international fireworks festival every April, attracted nearly 2.3 million international tourists in 2017, up 37 per cent compared to a year ago, according to the Da Nang Department of Tourism.

Gangneung in South Korea is the most trending destination at Airbnb, with bookings rising 2,175 per cent against last year, indicating excitement for the 2018 Winter Games. Other destinations on the list include Bournemouth (UK), Edmonton (Canada), Indianapolis and Columbus (US), Famagusta (Cyprus), Bilbao (Spain), and Matinhos (Brazil).

Founded in 2008, Airbnb allows people to lease or rent short-term lodgings, including vacation rentals, apartment rentals, homestays, hostel beds, and hotel rooms. The company does not own any lodging; it is merely a broker and receives a service fee from both guest and host for every booking. It has over 3 million listed lodgings in 65,000 cities in 191 countries and the cost of lodging is set by the host.
