Top legislator holds talks with Mongolian counterpart

At the invitation of the Vietnamese top legislator, Chairman of the State Great Khural, the Mongolian Parliament and his spouse started an official visit to Vietnam from January 20-23.

Ms. Ngan said that Vietnam and Mongolia set up the diplomatic ties 60 years ago and the bilateral ties have been unceasingly nurtured and developed. Vietnamese people always bear in mind the valuable support of Mongolian people in the fight for national independence.

The Vietnamese Chairwoman said she treasured and valued Mongolia for its support for Vietnam at international forums.

In return, Chairman Miyegombo Enkhbold expressed his gratitude to the respectful reception of the host leader.

At the talks, the two leaders were unanimous in the enhanced relations between the two countries in which they maintained regular contacts and cooperation in important sectors, namely diplomacy, security, and national defense.

Ms. Ngan lauded Mongolia for receiving Vietnamese officers to Khaan Quest, a peace keeping operation, saying Vietnam stands ready to accept Mongolian military officers to Vietnamese for language training.

The two sides agreed that economic and commercial cooperation remains modest and should be improved in the future. They also approved of other fields of cooperation including agriculture, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Chairwoman Ngan proposed the two sides beef up economic and trade linkages. The top legislator also pledged to work with the Mongolian side to urge the respective ministries, agencies, and localities to implement the signed agreements and common perceptions reached by leaders of the two countries especially at the 16th meeting of the Mongolia-Vietnam intergovernmental commission.

They agreed that Vietnam would be permitted to expanding its overseas shipment to Mongolia especially agro-fishery products like rice, tea, coffee, consumption goods, garments and textiles. On the other hand, Mongolia would export frozen meat which could meet Vietnamese regulations on safety and quarantine.

Both the host and the guest leaders acknowledged the necessity to encourage respective businesses to beef up investment and business exchanges and jointly host specific market expos.

The Mongolian Chairman recommended the two sides strengthen financial linkages which would facilitate business operation and investment. Mongolia stands ready to open market for Vietnamese investors in such area as agriculture and tourism, said Mr. Miyegombo Enkhbold.

In petroleum field, Mongolia is willing to shake hands with Vietnam and open the door for Vietnam to explore and exploit oil. He also proposed the two sides strengthen professional investigations and boost border gate and customs cooperation.

The guest leader voiced his support for Vietnam’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure and Vietnam’s stance in maintaining peace, security, and peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea in accordance with international law.
