Police in HCM City have detained several local men who fraudulently passed themselves off as police officers while participating in protests last week.

Tran Quoc Tuan, 23, was arrested on Sunday when joining a group of people who gathered at some areas in the city's centre to protest against the draft Law on Special Economic Units and the Law on Cybersecurity.

He and 140 other protestors were taken to the police station for causing public disorder.

A day earlier on June 16, police also detained 100 protestors including three fake police officers who carried knives, screwdrivers, tear gas spray and leaflets voicing opposition to the two controversial laws.
