The Environment Police Department in Ho Chi Minh City on June 29 said that they had persuaded a man in District 1 to deliver his gibbon to local authorities.

"The man said that he saw the gibbon in a parking lot in Ho Tung Mau Street and brought it home to raise it without knowing that it was illegal," the department said in its report.

The department said that they had transferred the rare animal to Cat Tien National Forest which will then release it into wild after giving it care and support.

According to the department, there are many cases in which wild animals including monkeys, otters, gibbons and other animals were illegally kept by local people.

Besides warnings about the bad effect of keeping wild animals to people's health, the department also stressed that keeping wild rare animals is illegal.
