Hanoi’s suburban district of Chuong My may continue facing serious floods in some days to come due to the possible impacts of Storm Benbica.

The storm is forecasted to bring torrential rains in the northern and northern central regions on August 15-17, said Le Thanh Hai from General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control.

The National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting earlier warned of floods on Da River in Hoa Binh Province as well as on Thao River in Yen Bai Province. The same situation would also occur in some other rivers in the north, including Red River and Day, Hoang Long and Boi rivers.

According to the centre, the northern delta region would be seriously inundated, including Hanoi’s outlying district of Chuong My.

Chuong My District faced a long flooding recently because of heavy rains in late July. Some communes in the district were even totally isolated by the flood water. Local residents have been presented with ten tonnes of rice along with necessities from local authorities and donors.

Chu Phu My, director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said Hanoi authorities had held an urgent meeting to discuss preventive measures to deal with the impact of any storm.
