A Japanese naval submarine arrived at Cam Ranh International Port in the southern coastal province of Khanh Hoa this morning, September 17, starting a five-day visit to Vietnam.

This is among activities to mark the 45th anniversary of Japan-Vietnam ties and implement defence co-operation agreements signed between the two countries.

During the stay in Vietnam, the Japanese commanding officers will meet provincial officials and representatives from High Command of Region 4 of the Vietnam People’s Navy. There will be also a meeting between the command and the Japanese crew for exchanging experiences as well as sports activities.

The Japanese side will also take a tour to Nha Trang City.

This is the first visit of the Japanese submarine to Vietnam, which is expected to help sharpen the bilateral defence co-operation. It is also hoped to contribute to maintaining peace, stability and co-operation in the region.

Last year, the Japanese Naval vessel Fuyuzuki docked at Cam Ranh International Port for a five-day visit to Vietnam.
