The authorities in Hanoi have proposed the rapid expansion of Au Co Street for the coming ASEAN Summit and 31st SEA Games in 2020.

An Duong overpass

Hanoi People's Committee has submitted an official document to the government, stating that it is urgent to expand Au Co Street and replace a part of the soil embankment with concrete from Nghi Tam to Xuan Dieu intersections.

Au Co Street connects the city's centre with Noi Bai International Airport. The street is very crowded and suffers from congestion since it is quite narrow and the traffic volume is high. According to Hanoi authorities, if a part of the soil embankment is to be replaced with concrete then they can expand two-lane Au Co into a four-lane street.

It will be part of important routes connecting to major bridges in the city including Thang Long, Chuong Duong, Nhat Tan, Vinh Tuy and Thanh Tri bridges. Hanoi authorities urged to start the construction quickly for the coming ASEAN Summit and 31st SEA Games which will be held in Hanoi in 2020.

Hanoi authorities also wanted to merge the Au Co expansion project into the on-going An Duong-Thanh Nien overpass project since both projects are intended to reduce congestion. It will also save them from going through various procedures such as project management consultant bidding.

According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the project will not be completed in time if they must follow all procedures. They can also take lessons from the pros and cons of An Duong-Thanh Nien overpass project and shorten the construction time by eight months.
