The prices on those websites are often 20-40% higher than the listed prices of the Vietnam Railway Corporation. Some websites target foreign visitors with English interfaces. Those websites use a similar domain to the Vietnam Railway Corporation name to trick customers.

The prices are much higher because those websites also include various types of fees such as the service fee, currency exchange fee, and holiday fee.

For example, a HCM City-Hanoi ticket on January 17 costs over USD69 on these websites, much higher than usual USD51.73. For the Hanoi-HCM City train on February 21, the ticket prices including USD67 plus 30% holiday fee and 4% service fee to a total of USD87.1.

Passengers can book tickets at dsvn.vn.

More trains will be added to meet higher demand for the Lunar New Year. Online sales account for 44% out of the sector’s sold tickets. By December 21, nearly 230,000 tickets were sold for Tet.

Meanwhile, airlines in Vietnam will offer 5,800 extra flights to meet travel demand for Tet. The additional fights will help to provide a total of 1.2 million seats.
