The first storm of the year, Storm Pabuk, is heading toward Thailand causing rough seas and heavy rains in Ca Mau City.

On January 4, main streets in the inner city have been submerged under water, especially at junctions which caused massive troubles for the drivers and congestion.

According to the Ca Mau Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a widespread rain fell down in the province during the evening of January 3 and early morning of January 4. The rainfall from 1 am to 5 am was at 50-92mm and the wind speed was at 12-19 km/h.

On January 2, Chairman of Ca Mau Province Nguyen Tien Hai ordered local authorities to call fishing ships to shelters and evacuate the people on Hon Chuoi Island. As the storm approached, some fish cages were damaged but no one was hurt.

Two fishing boats which suffered from engine failure before the storm approached were also helped to shelter in time.

Bac Lieu Province was also flooded. Some places were under 50-70 cm of water. The police were deployed to key sections to regulate the traffic and help the citizens.

65-year-old Tran Duc Chung said, "This is the second time that I've seen such severe flood. Low-lying houses will be flooded."
