Serious congestion has been reported around the Tan Son Nhat Airport

On the evenings of January 14, 15 and 16, thousands of vehicles were stuck on the roads leading to Tan Son Nhat Airport. The most severe congestion spot was from Lang Cha Ca roundabout to Hoang Hoa Tham overpass.

Local Le Van Nghia said it was still more bearable than the congestion on December 28. The main routes to Tan Son Nhat Airport and adjacent roads were all jammed. "During the peak days leading up to the Tet holiday, both the traffic density and the number of flights will increase even more. Traffic jams will worsen if the authorities don't have any solutions ready," he said.

Tan Son Nhat Airport received 38.4 million passengers last year, an increase of 6.72% compared to 2017. The number of passengers will continue to rise by 8-10% from January 20 to February 19. It will serve 900 flights a day this Tet Holiday, increased by 73 flights compared to the previous Tet Holiday.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Trung Phong, head of the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department in HCM City, they have reviewed the situation and will focus on Tan Son Nhat Airport and Cat Lai Port. They will work closely with the managers of Tan Son Nhat Airport to regulate the traffic.

Tan Son Nhat Airport has implemented several measures to deal with overcrowding and congestion such as adding 10 more baggage carousels, parking places and taxiways for more planes. A special team has been established to ensure security and avoid congestion at the airport until February 15.
