African swine fever continues ravaging Vietnam

African swine fever (ASF) epidemic has been found at a household in the northern mountainous province of Son La.

According to Son La Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the outbreak was reported at Huoi Ai Village, Muong E Commune, Thuan Chau District.

Vu Giong Thao’s family herd of pigs was left to wander along with neighbouring pigs which meant local authorities had to cull nearly 100 pigs in Huoi Ai on Wednesday morning. Sterilisation procedures have also been carried out in addition to the establishment of quarantine stations.

Some days ago, the epidemic has been discovered in Ta Village, Thuan Mang Commune, Ngan Son District, Bac Kan Province.

To date, the disease has spread to Hanoi and the provinces of Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Hoa Binh, Dien Bien, Quang Ninh, Bac Kan and Son La.

The epidemic has hit pigs in Hanoi’s outlying district of Quoc Oai with 213 pigs destroyed.
