Former German politician takes on VinaCapital role

Former German Vice Chancellor Philipp Rösler has arrived in Vietnam to work as the chairman of VinaCapital Ventures' Advisory Board.

VinaCapital Ventures, one of the largest investment and asset management firms in Vietnam announced the news during the announcement ceremony of the investment into two start-up companies, Wee Digital and Urbox, on March 15 in HCM City.

Philipp Rösler is a German-Vietnamese. He was born in 1973 in Soc Trang Province and was adopted by a German couple at 9 months old.

He became Germany's youngest minister after taking the position as the Minister of Health in 2009. In 2011, he was elected as the vice chancellor cum minister of economic and technology. In 2014, he joined the management board of the World Economic Forum based in Switzerland.

At the ceremony, Rosler said he was very excited to be able to work at VinaCapital and help young people with start-up projects.

Don Lam, the co-founder of VinaCapital, said inviting Rosler to be the chairman of the advisory board was their contribution to Vietnam's start-up scene. It's also one of the important parts of their strategic development plan in Vietnam.

Urbox was founded in 2017 with the intention to provide creative marketing campaigns to help businesses attract customers. Currently, Urbox has partnered with hundreds of clients, over 3,000 food suppliers and entertainment services across Vietnam such as The Coffee House, Paris Baguette and BHD Cineplex.

Wee Digital provides solutions to optimise user interaction in digital banking services by applying biometric technology and artificial intelligence.
