The shipment was transported from Africa to the port by the Mia Schulte container ship. Hanoi-headquartered Hoa Binh International Express Company Limited has been identified to be the receiver.

Customs officers examined its contents, discovering 311 bags containing up to 8.3 tonnes of pangolin scales put underneath 120 bags of Senna siamea seeds.

The case is being further investigated.

In January, customs forces in in Haiphong City also discovered nearly 1.4 tonnes of pangolin scales and 20 elephant tusks weighing more than 100 kilos hidden inside a container shipped from Nigeria.
