Architect Vo Trong Nghia and his team have won first prize at the FuturArc Green Leadership 2019.

The Castaway Island Resort designed by Vo Trong Nghia and colleagues at architecture firm VTN Architects is the winner for the commercial category at the FuturArc Green Leadership 2019.

The Castaway Island Resort is located in Cat Ba, Hai Phong and enough rooms for 160 visitors. The only way to access the resort is by boat. The resort is a two-hour boat from Ben Binh Port.

The site covers 3,000 square metres and consists of five bungalows, a restaurant and pavilion. It is made out of bamboo covered with a thatched roof in traditional Vietnamese style. There are a total of 13 main structures. Each one is built from 80 bamboo trees. The bungalows have a structure of a hyperbolic-paraboloid shell to create an open space to let visitors interact with each other and nature.

Also at the FuturArc Green Leadership Award, Vo Trong Nghia's stepping park house is also selected in the list of citation recipients in the residential-individual house category.

The house is located in HCM City and designed to be an extended part of the surrounding environment. The ground floor looks out to the park and the upper floors are decorated with many trees. The house is designed to make use of as much natural light and wind as possible in order to reduce to use of air conditioner.

FuturArc Green Leadership Award invited entries for green projects that are defined as new, restored, rehabilitated or converted, and are completed before 31 December 2018. The projects must be located within Asia or Australia and there were a total of six categories: Residential-Individual Houses, Residential-Multiple Houses, Commercial, Institutional, Urban, Socially-Inclusive Development.
