A young woman in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak has been saved following a kidney transplant which was successfully conducted thanks to financial support from readers of Dantri/DTiNews newspapers.

Dang Thanh Hien, 22, from Ea Kar District is now staying at Hanoi’s Bach Mai Hospital for the treatment after the surgery. It was Hien’s sister who donated part of her kidney for her.

Three weeks after the operation, Hien’s condition has become much better. Now she can eat two bowls of rice per meal and do housework.

After the article about Hien’s disease was published on Dantri/DTiNews, many readers donated a total VND120 million (USD5,217) to help her and the kidney transport was carried out in September.

Hien’s sister Dang Hoai Phuong said that she did not hesitate to give her kidney to Hien when she was in critical condition. Phuong’s husband also advocated this.

Doctors said that Hien still needs to take medicines for several months.
