Featuring visual artist Cao Hoang Long and experimental group ANNAM Duo.

Centered around and inspired by light, “Our light” combines traditional and modern materials in music and images to build a nonlinear fantasy world that is surreal, blurring the boundaries between memories – present – future, between the ordinary reality or the reality of dreams.

The performance does not depict the world of “visible” light, present in every time and place, surrounding and seemingly invading the lives of people, from the light of phones and computers, television to the advertising screen, electric lights, indoors, on the street… The light of technology, attractive but also easy to push people away from their inner world, alien to themselves. “Our light” finds its way to the invisible light that always exists inside every human being, the energy waiting to be unlocked.

The first collaboration between outstanding talents from many fields of arts: Cao Hoang Long (visual artist) and ANNAM Duo (experimental group), “Our light” will bring a unique, new experience to the audience by combining lighting, interactive visual performances and traditional / electronic music.

Hanoi- Presentation: “Composing the Performance” by Kent Olofsson

Olofsson will also talk about his work with Vietnamese musicians and instruments and present his new work for Dan Tranh and electronics, Red Madonnas, Black Rivers, written for Nguyen Thanh Thuy.

AB SYNDROM X LINHHAFORNOW: Extravagant Berlin beats and modern, avant-gardist Vietnamese music converge as the artists hit the road together for a tour of Southeast Asia. Both are already setting venues on fire in the music scenes in their respective home countries.

This is the eighth time already the Goethe Institute has invited a German-language band to Southeast Asia. After FOTOS, AUFBAU WEST, STABIL ELITE, GOLF, VON WEGEN LISBETH, DER RINGER and ISOLATION BERLIN, it is now time for the Berlin duo AB SYNDROM to come to Vietnam. As a special feature, Vietnamese artist LINH HA (FOR NOW) will accompany the duo on their tour of Vietnam. At every concert, AB SYNDROM and LINH HA will collaborate on a number of songs. In Hanoi and HCMC, the support act will be LINH HA’s duo project TINY GIANT.

Hanoi-Exhibition gathers 12 Southeast Asian photographers

A contemporary photography exhibition by 12 emerging Southeast Asian photographers.
These works were created over the span of 12 months through a photography masterclass facilitated by two German photographers Jörg Brüggemann and Tobias Kruse at the OBSCURA Festival of Photography between 2016 and 2017.

Some of the photographers joining the exhibition are Alvin Lau of Malaysia, Amrita Chandradas of Singapore, Muhammad Fadli of Indonesia, Kanel Khiev of Cambodia, Watsamon Tri-yasakda of Thailand and Linh Pham of Vietnam.

An exhibition by Nguyen Khac Chinh.

“Chinh Nguyen Khac captures the attention of the world of artists with his outstanding works which depict the disturbance, the confusion of conflicts of individual versus society and contemporary issues. He’s a phenomenon that possesses an instinct for existentialism, always delves into the world of psychoanalysis searching for its true ego. This creates layers of complexity in his paintings, sometimes a bit too much.

Yet, in his journey of an artist, Chinh found his way through by leaping into the realm of pure beauty. This change of direction opens an opportunity for him to achieve his artistic vision. There is no limit, no boundary to what constitutes beauty. It is ever-changing yet never spirals away from its radical principals.

Chinh Nguyen Khac has chosen the right path and created works that are high standard. His brush is tight and precise but never archetypal or exaggerated. Colours change from harmonic and melancholic to vivid in such a natural shift. Graphics skillfully structured yet not photographic. But what makes Chinh different is his ability to put his subjects into a stasis that transcends time and space. Reality becomes virtual, slippery and hazy.
