14th National Assembly convenes eighth session

The 14th National Assembly (NA) opened its 8th session in Hanoi on the morning of October 21 in a ceremony broadcast live on national television and radio.

The NA convened a preparatory meeting to discuss and pass the working agenda for the 8th session. At 9am, the NA officially began the 8th session at the NA House’s Dien Hong Hall.

Speaking at the opening, Politburo member and NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, emphasised the importance of the eight session of the 14th NA which will take place at the end of year. Fundamentally, the draft laws, projects and reports have been prepared seriously and meticulously, ensuring the quality and progress, she noted.

For the session to achieve the optimal results, the senior legislator urged the NA deputies to promote the spirit of innovation and creativity, while taking time to carefully study the documents, as well as giving comments on each issue, especially those with different viewpoints, to create high unity for the NA to make the correct decisions.

After the opening announcement, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented reports evaluating the implementation of the socio-economic development plan in 2019, the socio-economic development plan in 2020. Chairman of the NA Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh presented a report on revising the Government reports.

The NA also listened to President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man presenting a report summing up voters’ opinions and petitions. Chairwoman of the NA Standing Committee’s Ombudsman Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai presented a report on the supervision of the settlement of voters’ petitions submitted to the NA’s 7th session.

Minister-Chairman of the Government Committee of Ethnic Affairs Do Van Chien presented a master plan on socio-economic development in ethnic and mountainous areas as well as regions in extremely difficult situation; Chairman of the NA’s Ethnic Council Ha Ngoc Chien presented a report on the verification of the plan.
