Hanoi has recorded up to 7,646 dengue fever cases so far this year and the figure has continued rising.

According to the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control, most of the dengue fever patients are from the districts of Ha Dong, Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem, Dong Da, Thuong Tin, Thanh Tri, Hoang Mai, Thanh Oai, Hoai Duc and Bac Tu Liem.

The centre, however, reported that the epidemic had caused no fatalities in the capital city so far this year.

In August, Hanoi saw just 200-300 dengue fever cases per week on average. The number increased to 400-500 patients in September. The problem has worsened following heavy rains in early October.

The Hanoi Department of Health said that besides spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes and destroy their larvae, it is very important for people to clean their house and not use open containers to store water for daily use.

Residents have also been advised to sleep under mosquito nets.

When showing symptoms including a prolonged high temperature, serious headache, rash and vomiting with blood, residents should seek medical attention immediately for treatment.

Hanoi is taking drastic actions to deal with the epidemic which is expected to be controlled by late November.
