Studio 68 and Heartbeat Vietnam, a program of the VinaCapital Foundation (VCF), have announced that the annual "Scar of Life” fundraising program, in support of children with congenital heart defects, will be held on November 30 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Ngo Thanh Van, Ambassador of Heartbeat Vietnam, told a press conference that the theme of this year’s event is “The Paper Plane”. She wants to send out a message of “Giving love to heal lives” and called for public attention to children with congenital heart defects.

Thousands of children with congenital heart defects suffer through their childhood and cannot realize their dreams. Everyone should contribute to give such children a chance to live, and that is also the goal of a gala dinner and auction on November 30.

The 9th Scar of Life Gala Dinner will gather together more than 300 business leaders and artists at a premiere of the short film “The Paper Plane”, directed by Jun Pham. The film is about two poor children with congenital heart defects who put their dreams into paper planes and fly them into the sky every day in the expectation that their wishes will come true one day.

Funds will be raised from silent and live auctions of more than 70 valuable items relating to arts, architecture, fine cuisine, and travel. The highlight of the auction is a High Porcelain Kwan Yin sculpture, in a limited edition of 888, from renowned Spanish brand Lladró. The exquisitely beautiful statue implies a message of compassion and sympathy to people who are suffering and has been donated by QHome, the exclusive distributor of Lladró in Vietnam.

“The VCF’s goal is to support poor Vietnamese children in rural areas to receive quality healthcare,” said Mr. Don Lam, Chairman of the VCF. “This goal is aligned with the theme of Scar of Life 9. We will cooperate with Ms. Van, our partners, and donors to realize children’s dreams, in particular to heal their hearts and bring them a better life in the future.”

“I hope that Scar of Life will gain support from Vietnam’s business community, to share our vision of providing diagnoses and treatment of congenital heart defects as well as other health issues facing children all over the country.”

Scar of Life 9 is expected to raise surgical funds for more than 350 children with congenital heart defects in Vietnam thanks to generous donations from corporations and individuals.
