Many people at apartments in Hanoi experienced light shakes this morning, November 21, which is said to be impacted by an earthquake in Laos.

A woman who lives on the 13th floor of an apartment building on Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District, said that at around 7 am this morning, when she was combing her daughter’s hair, she saw a plastic toy on her door shake abnormally.

She immediately thought it could be an earthquake and then quickly found the related information on the internet. The tremors lasted for nearly two minutes.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, head of Institute of Geophysics, said that the agency was collecting more statistics about the case. The tremors were probably the result of a 6.1-magnitude earthquake which happened in Laos’ Sayaboury Province at a depth of 38 kilometres at around 6:50 am this morning Hanoi time.

The incident was roughly 219 kilometres from Vientiane and 600 kilometres from Hanoi.

According to Reuters, the tremors affected neighbouring countries, including Thailand.

In September last year, Hanoi residents panicked as high-rise buildings felt tremors from a 5.3 magnitude earthquake that hit China’s Yunnan Province.
