More people flock to China through Lang Son border gate to work

An increasing number of Vietnamese people are rushing to China to work through Huu Nghi International Border Gate in the northern province of Lang Son.

Captain Ha Trong Duoc, head of Huu Nghi International Border Gate’s Border Post, said that the area has seen large influxes of Vietnamese people come to complete procedures to seek jobs in China.

At this time of the year, many localities in China are harvesting sugarcane. Many Chinese companies need more workers due to Lunar New Year demand.

Over the recent days, around 1,000 people are estimated to go to China daily through Huu Nghi International Border Gate. The figure even reaches 1,700 sometimes, causing congestion. Lots of people have to queue for hours for their turn.

Recently, Chinese firms send their staff to the border to find Vietnamese workers.

The Chinese use fingerprints to manage people who enter the country through border gates.

However, many Vietnamese have been deported by the Chinese for failing to show valid work permits or personal identification papers.

Last year, more than 35,000 people were caught trying to enter China illegally.

In the first six months of this year, up 1,762 people in Lang Son Province only were found trying to come to China illegally.
