US former first lady Michelle Obama started a visit to Vietnam where she met with local education organisations to help adolescent girls reach their full potential.

US former first lady Michelle Obama met with local authorities and school girls at a high school in Long An Province on December 9

Michelle Obama arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City with her husband, former US President Barrack Obama, on their private plane on the evening of December 8. While she had a busy schedule in Vietnam, the former president had no official activity in the country.

On Monday morning, Obama, on behalf of the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance, visited Can Giuoc High School in the southern province of Long An.

Obama was joined by US actress Julia Roberts; a daughter of former US President George W. Bush, MC Jenna Bush Hager; actress Lana Condor who used to live in an orphanage in Vietnam before being adopted by a US couple; and Vietnamese actress Ngo Thanh Van.

The delegation spent four hours discussing with local authorities and school girls at the Room to Read project and provided skills training for adolescent girls.

The Obamas will leave Vietnam later on December 9 for Malaysia where the Obama Foundation is hosting a gathering of 200 civic leaders from Asia-Pacific in Kuala Lumpur from December 10 to December 14.
