PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked Hanoi and HCM cities to make plans for the lockdown of the whole city for virus prevention.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked Hanoi and HCM cities to make plans for the lockdown of the whole city for virus prevention.

The Government Office released the announcement that the PM made during a meeting with five central cities on Sunday. Prevention and control measures have been strictly implemented across the country and gained good results. As of now, Vietnam has had 194 cases and 55 people have been cured. Patients in severe conditions have stabilised and are improving.

The PM praised the cities' leaders for their work. Vietnam had quickly detected small outbreaks across the country and applied strict measures. There are ample medical supplies. The authorities must also care for everyone who works in the frontline. The preventive measures are also supported by the public and individuals and organisations have donated to help in the outbreak.

Since Vietnam is in a critical period, the PM asked all authorities to stay on alert, tightening preventive and control measures, preventing people from hotspots from travelling to other locations and being ready to give support to other regions if needed.

Since the population density in central cities is high, the preventive and control in those cities will be crucial for the whole country. Locality authorities must pay attention to high-risk areas like apartment buildings, open markets, and hospitals. They must also issue medical forms to the citizens, monitor suspected cases, and set up a monitoring and commandeering network for all situations including martial law.

Hanoi and HCM City people's committees must review and prepare plans in case the whole cities must be put on lockdown. Food for the whole city will be ensured and price gouging on food and medical supplies will face severe punishments.

Currently, all personnel are directed to deal with the outbreaks from Bach Mai Hospital and Buddha Bar. Contact tracing methods are being applied to track anyone suspected. Authorities from all provinces and cities were asked to co-operate with Hanoi and HCM City to deal with those two outbreaks.

The Ministry of Health will work with other agencies to speed up and increase quick testing. Healthcare workers must be protected to prevent cross-infection.
