The Ministry of Transport has requested all local and foreign airlines to halt their international flights to the country for two weeks in the context of the escalating Covid-19 epidemic.

Under an urgent instruction signed by Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan on Tuesday, the suspension takes effect between April 1 and April 15.

The change however does not apply to people who enter Vietnam for diplomatic and official purposes, foreign guests attending important external activities, experts, business managers, highly skilled workers, and special cases agreed by the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The ministry ordered airlines to reduce domestic airlines from March 30 to April 15. Each airline will provide only one flight per day on Hanoi-HCM City/ Danang/Phu Quoc and HCM City-Danang/Phu Quoc routes. Airlines have to halt all remaining flights from and to HCM City.

At present, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines are only operating eight flights per days and budget airline VietJet Air is providing 10 flights per day.
