The northern region will have three to five more cold spells that cause rainstorms in April.

Cold spells to bring rains

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the provinces in the northeast and north-central coast have continued to have light rains and temperatures at 15-20 degrees due to the first cold spell on April 1.

Hanoi will have rains and fog at night and early morning. The lowest temperature is around 18 degrees.

The northern region will have three to five more cold spells which may not cause low temperatures but will cause widespread rainstorms, hail and strong winds. Northeastern provinces will be more affected with fog.

From April 3 to 6, rain and rainstorm are forecasted for the north and north-central coast. The average temperature in the first 10 days of April in the Northeast will be 0.5 degrees lower than usual. Other regions' temperatures are 0.5-1.5 degrees higher than in previous years.

In south-central coast and southern region, the weather will be hot. Saltwater intrusion continues becoming a pressing problem due to late rainy season, especially in Vam Co River, Cai Lon River and Ca Mau Peninsula in late April and early May. From now to May, the water flow from the upstream of the Mekong River into Vietnam will be 10-20% lower than in previous years.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, there are chances that provinces in the northern and central regions will experience widespread heat in April. Last year, a record temperature of 43.4 degrees had occurred in Ha Tinh Province because of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation phenomenon.

Season changes occur in April so it's likely that Vietnam will have whirlwinds and hails in the northern mountains.
