Vietnam confirms six new COVID-19 cases, total rising to 218

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday evening reported six new Covid-19 infection cases, bringing the total number of patients in the country to 218.

The new patients are all Vietnamese and include two employees of Truong Sinh Company which provides services of the Hanoi-based Bach Mai General Hospital, one patient who visited the hospital for a health check-up and three people returning from abroad.


Of the three patients who returned from abroad, one is a 48-year-old woman from Quang Ninh Province. She departed from Germany and transited through Russia on her return to Vietnam on Aeroflot flight SU290 on March 23. After entry, she was isolated at the FPT University in Hanoi.

On March 31, she had a sore throat and on the same day, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Another patient is a 25-year-old woman who lives in the central province of Nghe An. She returned from Japan on March 25 on All Nippon Airways flight NH857. After entry, she was isolated at the FPT University.

The last case is a 43-year-old woman who resides in the northern province of Thai Nguyen. The patient returned home on Aeroflot flight SU290 from Russia on March 25. After the entry, she was isolated at FPT University.

All three patients are being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

According to the ministry, 63 Covid-19 patients have recovered as of Wednesday evening, 54 have tested negative once and 43 have tested negative twice.
