Thanh Hoa couple in need of help to overcome illnesses
A couple in Thanh Hoa Province is calling for financial support to cover medical treatment.
According to Hang, she was diagnosed with heart disease since 2012 and her health has deteriorated ever since. She found out about the abdominal masses in 2017. When she had the third operation, her husband was admitted to the hospital to treat cancer.
They both stayed at the Hanoi-based Vietnam-Germany Hospital and were just discharged in March. Their medicines cost VND15m (USD641) a month while they still have a huge debt that has gone up to a hundred of millions of VND to pay. They are afraid that they may die before they can repay their debts.
"It hurts. I’ve already cried my eyes out but what can I do? I can't believe that we would be in this situation," she said. "Doctors said once my health was more stable, I would have the fourth operation. All money was saved for my husband's radiotherapy. He's our pillar."
Trinh Thi Nu, chairwoman of Thieu Thanh Commune Women's Union, said, "Hang's family has been in a tough situation since she fell ill. They have been struggling for five to six years but there's no way out. We called for help for them but it's not enough."
