Action month against drug starts

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered ministries, agencies and localities nationwide to carry out the action month against drug, starting from June 1.

This year’s action month, in response to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26), is titled “promoting the spirit of the COVID-19 fight, taking actions for drug-free community”.

The Government chief tasked the Ministry of Public Security to guide relevant forces to speed up investigations, crack down on drug trafficking rings, and strictly punish those who commit this crime, including drivers tested positive for drug.

The Ministry of Information and Communications is responsible for directing press agencies and grassroots information system to coordinate with specialized anti-drug agencies to disseminate legal regulations on drug prevention and control.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will take prime responsibility and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to integrate drug prevention and control into cultural-sport-tourism activities.

The Ministry of Education and Training is in charge of guiding education establishments to organize activities on drug prevention and control, with a focus on the consequences and harmful effects of drugs.

Defense and police forces are assigned to coordinate in cracking down drug crime along the borderlines and encouraging inhabitants in border areas not to join transportation, purchase and use of drugs.

In 2018, law enforcement forces handled 24,500 drug-related criminal cases with more than 30,000 people arrested.
