Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has allowed to re-open flights between Vietnam and China after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The move was announced at a government meeting on Covid-19 prevention and control on July 10 by the Government Office.

Addressing the meeting, the prime minister said that the demand for entry into Vietnam of Vietnamese people, foreign experts and investors has been on the rise. So, the local government will consider the entry priority order for groups.

The government leader has also instructed the Ministry of Transport to co-operate with the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health and national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to take Vietnamese nationals in the Republic of Guinea to return home.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Van Thanh, said that as many as 219 workers have been contracted to work at the Sendje hydropower plant project in Equatorial Guinea’s Littorial province.

Late last month, some of them visited the host country’s medical facilities for Covid-19 tests as they had got such symptoms like cough and fever. Test results released on June 30 showed that 16 had the virus and 20 others were suspected cases.

As of July 9, 74 others were confirmed having the virus, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients to 112. All of them are being treated in Equatorial Guinea.

The Government chief tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work with competent authorities of foreign countries to increase the number of flights to bring home citizens stranded due to the Covid-19.

The prime minister also agreed on reopening flights between Vietnam and China. The flight frequency and related regulations would be decided by the two-side aviation authorities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport have been assigned to co-operate with concerned agencies to work with countries on conducting more repatriation flights for Vietnamese nationals abroad as well as resuming commercial flights linking destinations such as Seoul, Tokyo, Guangzhou, Vientiane and Phnom Penh.
