20 new Covid-19 patients confirmed in Vietnam, one more dies

Vietnam has recorded 20 new Covid-19 infection cases, raising the total number of patients in the country to 950, the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced on Saturday evening.

The new patients include 11 in Danang City, four in Quang Nam Province, one in Hai Duong Province, and four imported cases who have been quarantined in Ho Chi Minh City.

The latest cases in Danang include six women and five men aged between 19-91. They are patients, relatives of patients at local hospitals and people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients.

Four new patients in Quang Nam Province are two men and two women aged between 14-66 who both came into contact with Covid-19 patients.

The new patient in Hai Duong Province is a 15-year old boy who came into contact with another Covid-19 patient.

Four imported patients are all men aged between 22-57 who returned on August 4 from the US’s Guam island. They have been quarantined upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City.

With these latest infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients coming from abroad has risen to 333 while those related to Danang City has increased to 477 since July 25, the committee said.

On Saturday afternoon, the Ministry of Health announced that a 75-year-old man in the central city of Danang died of Covid-19, raising the death toll in Vietnam to 23.

According to the ministry, the patient who was also suffering from chronic kidney failure, hypertension, type-2 diabetes, and heart failure, died at the Hoa Vang medical centre due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19 complications, severe respiratory failure, septic shock, in a patient with chronic renal failure, hypertension, and type-2 diabetes.

At present, over 115,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home. A total of 437 patients have recovered from the disease.
